Q. What is the Dallas chapter of ASTD?

A. The Dallas chapter of ASTD is a group of local professionals that represent a large number of companies in the region.

Q. What is the difference between the national and local ASTD organizations?

A. National ASTD has a remarkable supply of resources and offers relevant professional development opportunities such as certificate programs, conferences, and events.  The local chapter focuses on the needs of its members by providing networking opportunities, workshops and seminars on current trends and issues, and a large number of Professional Mastery Meetings.

Q. Do you do anything special for people who are going through a job transition?

A. The local Dallas ASTD chapter hosts Jobnet, a job-search networking and support group that meets before each monthly meeting.  Also, in recognition of the current economic times, the Executive Board of Dallas ASTD has announced a one-time discounted chapter membership rate for a new or renewal membership of $50.  To take advantage of this rate, please contact the chapter administrator, Vikki Porter, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Q. What is the Southwest Learning Summit and Exposition?

A. The Southwest Learning Summit and Exposition is the premier event for the local Dallas ASTD chapter.  Some of the highlights of the summit include:

·          Four different learning tracks: social media, tools for training, talent development, and engagement.

·          Two keynote speakers: Tony Schwarz, the author of The Way We’re Working Isn’t Working, and Tony Bingham, the President and CEO of ASTD.

·          A full range of exhibitors of a wide variety of products and services to make your job easier and more productive. 

·          A full resource center with books, videos, training toys, and many other products/services for the learning and development professional.

Q. When and where is the SWLS?

A. SWLS will be held from 8 am to 5 pm on Tue, 8/17, at the Plano Centre (2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX 75074).

Q. Who typically attends the SWLS?

A. Learning and development professionals at all levels, consultants, human resource professionals with responsibility for the training function, organization development professionals, subject matter experts who are interested in learning training techniques, etc.
