President's Pen - The Dallas ASTD 2007 Balanced Scorecard Goals

by Deborah Avrin

The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don't define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.- Dr. Denis Watley, author The Psychology of Winning.

I am pleased to share our Dallas ASTD goals, which we consider challenging but achievable.

The Leadership Team took a slightly different strategy this year and defined our Chapter goals in a “balanced scorecard” type format.

From a SWOT analysis conducted at our December leadership retreat, the team brainstormed goals within four categories: Customer, Learning and Growth, Financial and Processes.

At the center of our goals is our mission:  By offering best practices, networking, and skill development, we become the Dallas Metroplex’s best resource for workplace learning and performance professionals.

Dallas ASTD 2007 Goals:

Customer:

Member Survey 2/07

Best Place to Learn Award – 12/07

Each of the leadership team members are developing individual action plans to accomplish our goals.   When you see a leadership team member, ask about their goals; they are enthusiastic about all our possibilities.  Why not share the adventure with us by contributing your ideas or volunteering to be on a team?

After 9/11, all professional associations (but especially those devoted to workplace learning and performance) lost members.  This is the first year we are confident that we can grow membership and increase meeting attendance.  We know we can’t accomplish this without adding value for our members therefore…

Next Month:  Delivering Value to Our Members
