President's Pen - The Dallas ASTD Succession Plan and How You Can Participate

by Deborah Avrin

The Dallas ASTD Succession Planning process is designed to attract members to leadership roles for the continued heath of our chapter and to ensure a smooth transition from year to year.

This is an eight month process which is led by the President Elect therefore, Carol Glynn is leading our effort this year based on the following schedule:

May: Start advertising the need for volunteer leaders for next year

June: Collect candidates and interview team

July: Interview candidates

August: Announce candidates

September: Members vote on the candidate slate

October: Newly elected candidates can start attending leadership meetings

November: Full day planning retreat for the new leadership team is held

December: New officers take oath of office

I’m happy to report we’re right on schedule and had an event on June 26th where potential 2008 leadership candidates attended a dinner, observed an abbreviated leadership meeting and had the opportunity to ask questions.

Why should you get involved?  The more involved you are in any organization, they more you will enjoy the benefits.  This is your opportunity to contribute your voice to the direction of the chapter and how it makes decisions in programs, member services, communication etc.  Also it’s fun to get to know your fellow chapter members.

How can you get involved?  There are a large number of ways you can contribute to the succession process; here are a few to think about:

I’m privileged to work with an outstanding leadership team this year; I consider myself very lucky.  With everyone’s help and our Succession Planning process, Carol will also locate a terrific team for 2008.

Next Month:  Progress towards our 2007 Balanced Scorecard Goals
