CPLP
and WIIFM…A mouth full of acronyms or something meaningful?
ASTD's Certification Institute has developed the Certified
Professional in Learning and Performance™ (CPLP™) credential.
WIIFM
of course is What’s in it for Me. Certification
has a number of benefits. It benefits:
individuals—by
offering a means for professionals to prove their value, communicate their
role, and identify a path for continued professional development
employers—by
providing a common reference point to help compare job candidates
the
profession—by
creating standards and raising the bar; increasing visibility and stature
I’ve been a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources(SPHR), the SHRM certification, since 1993 and I consider this one of my best achievements. The number of people certified has grown through the years and I suspect the CPLP will catch on just as quickly. Why not add this achievement to your list?
The CPLP™ process requires candidates to pass both a 150 multiple choice knowledge exam focusing on nine areas and a work product assessment. The work product is a sample of your work in the area of either: designing learning, delivering training, or measuring and evaluating.
The nine areas of the exam are: Designing learning, Improving human performance, Delivering training, Measuring and evaluating, Facilitating organizational change, Managing the learning function, Coaching, Managing organizational knowledge, Career planning and talent management. Some areas are weighted more than others.
Dallas ASTD has plans to start a self directed study group this year and next year will be partnering with the University of Dallas to offer a certified instructor led class. In 2008 Dallas ASTD will also begin to tie many of their programs to the CPLP body of knowledge and offering recertification credits. If you are interested in the self directed study group contact me at Deborah.Avrin@ManagementSkillsInc.com
The 2008 testing window starts with registration from December 3, 2007 to January 31, 2008 with the exam period March 21, 2008 through April 11, 2008 (you schedule your date). Work product submission: June 14, 2008 through September 1, 2008. Testing fees average $750-$950. Study materials cost extra. Fees for the self-study ASTD Learning System range from $450-$595.
If you have at least three years of industry related experience and/or education, plus the desire to prove your value and continue your professional development, then consider earning your CPLP designation! For more information click on: http://www.astd.org/content/ASTDcertification/
